What's the Deal with the Telehealth Parity Law in New York State?

In short, after speaking with the ATA (American Telemedicine Association), any patient using private insurance can have a telehealth consultation with a physician. This means that private insurance is mandated to cover a telehealth consultation the same was as an in-office visit. The patient can be anywhere in the state and the doctor can be anywhere in the country, as long as the physician is licensed to practice in New York.

Private insurers are required to cover services via telemedicine if provided by hospitals, home care and hospice agencies, licensed physicians, PAs, dentists, nursing, midwives, podiatrists, optometrists, ophthalmic dispensers, psychologists, social workers, or speech language pathology and audiologists.
